Responsibilities or duties
The Chichewa Teacher is responsible for teaching Malawi's national language, developing students' proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Chichewa.
- Teach Language Skills: Develop students' competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in Chichewa, building vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure.
- Teach Literature: Introduce students to Chichewa literature, including novels, plays, poetry, and oral traditions, fostering an appreciation for Malawian cultural heritage.
- Plan and Deliver Lessons: Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that cater to different learning styles and abilities, using a variety of teaching aids and resources.
- Assess Student Progress: Set, administer, and mark tests and examinations, providing feedback to students and parents on progress and areas for improvement.
- Promote Cultural Awareness: Use language instruction as a vehicle for teaching about Malawian customs, traditions, and values.
- Support Literacy Development: Implement strategies to improve literacy rates and support students who are struggling with reading and writing.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- Diploma/Degree in Education or related field
- At least 3 years of teaching experience
- Energetic retirees are encouraged to apply
