Job Purpose

The Chief Operating Officer will be accountable for overseeing the technical operations of the company with core mandate to drive a robust Underwriting, Marketing and Claims functions and facilitate growth in underwriting profitability.

The role holder being a member of the Executive Committee will suppor he Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in setting and driving strategic directior and providing executive leadership and management to the business operations, focusing on ensuring the departments’ performance meets or exceeds customer expectations while concurrently driving operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer as COO, the incumbent shall:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across all technical departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with the company’s vision and growth objectives.
  • Drive efficiency, innovation, and digital transformation in insurance operations.
  • Lead and mentor operational team to achieve performance excellence
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) on strategic initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and give technical guidance on all complex and large risks – both underwriting and claims.
  • Evaluate reinsurance data and recommend changes where applicable to ensure a robust and optimal reinsurance program.

Qualifications, Experience and Core Candidate Attributes

The position requires a highly motivated person with the following core competencies:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree (Business Administration, Economics, Law, Insurance etc.) from a recognized and accredited University plus an Advanced Diploma in Insurance -Chartered Insurer (ACIl).
  • Possession of an MBA is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years proven track record in senior management leadership experience in financial services, preferably in insurance industry.
  • Strong knowledge of general insurance operations, regulatory frameworks, and market dynamics.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational transformation and growth.
