ABOUT US

Sycamore Wealth Limited is a newly licensed Portfolio Manager, having received its license from the Registrar of Financial Institutions under the Reserve Bank of Malawi in February 2026. We are at an exciting and foundational stage of our journey — building a firm that will deliver credible, professional, and client-focused wealth and asset management services in Malawi.

We are looking for the right person to help us build this business from the ground up.Advertise in Malawi

THE ROLE

As we prepare to commence full operations, Sycamore Wealth Limited is seeking a driven and experienced professional to join us as Chief Operating Officer. Reporting to the Managing Director, the COO will carry full accountability for the day-to-day running of the business — from establishing operational structures to actively driving business development and wealth management service delivery.

This is a rare opportunity to be a founding executive of a regulated financial services firm and to leave a lasting imprint on how it is built, run, and grown.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Development

  • Lead the firm’s client acquisition strategy, growing assets under management from inception
  • Identify and develop strategic relationships with individual, corporate, and institutional clients
  • Build the firm’s market presence and brand profile within Malawi’s financial services sector
  • Develop and execute strategies to attract and retain clients across the firm’s wealth management offerings

Wealth & Portfolio Management Oversight

  • Oversee the delivery of portfolio management and investment advisory services in line with the firm’s licence and regulatory obligations
  • Ensure client portfolios are managed professionally, transparently, and in clients’ best interests
  • Work with investment representatives to uphold the highest standards of service quality and ethical conduct

Operational Setup & Management

  • Play a key role in setting up the firm’s operational infrastructure, systems, processes, and internal controls
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and governance frameworks appropriate for a regulated entity
  • Ensure smooth day-to-day business operations and monitor performance against targets

People & Culture

  • Build and lead a small but capable team in the firm’s early phase
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and client-centricity from day one
  • Support the development and retention of talent as the firm grows

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure the firm operates in full compliance with its Portfolio Manager Licence conditions, the Financial Services Act, and all directives from the Reserve Bank of Malawi
  • Maintain proper books, records, and reporting as required by the regulator
  • Proactively manage compliance, operational, and reputational risks

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field
  • A postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) is strongly preferred
  • Professional certification such as CFA, CIMA, ACCA, or ICAM membership is a distinct advantage
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in financial services, with at least 3 years in a senior management role
  • Demonstrable experience in wealth management, portfolio management, or asset management
  • Solid understanding of the Malawi financial services regulatory environment
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build and execute in a start-up environment
  • Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Unquestionable integrity and professional discretion

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A remuneration package commensurate with experience
  • A genuine opportunity to be part of building a regulated financial services firm from its earliest days
  • A professional environment that values integrity, initiative, and excellence
  • Room to grow with the business as it scales
