CLINICAL ASSOCIATE – Obstetrics and Gynecology (1)

Reporting to: Medical Officer in Charge Location: Zomba

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Managing both routine and emergency patient needs.
• Conducting routine examinations including gynecological screenings, Pap smears, pelvic exams, and breast exams.
• Providing obstetric Care including care throughout the prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods, including monitoring fetal health and managing new mothers' recovery.
• With coordination of the Specialist, identifying and managing conditions such as infections, hormonal disorders, menstrual problems, and infertility.
• Developing and implementing patient management plans, including medication prescriptions and coordinating referrals to specialist services.
• Performing and assisting in Specialist procedures such as Cesarean sections, MVA, uterine evacuation etc.
• Supporting and assisting pregnant women with labour and delivery by monitoring progress of labour, maternal wellbeing and assisting with safe baby delivery.
• Performing and interpreting diagnostic tests like laboratory results and ultrasound scans.
• Educating women on family planning, contraception, fertility, and menopause management.
• Maintaining accurate and comprehensive electronic medical records (EMR), including clinical progress notes and discharge summaries.
• Adhering to infection control guidelines and ensure all patient care is delivered with the highest degree of professionalism.

Educational qualifications experience and attributes

• Bachelors of Science in Obstetrics and Gynecology
• Three years practical experience in a busy hospital.
• Proven competencies working in clinical care skills and interpersonal communication skills.
• High level of work organization, self-motivation, driving for performance improvement, and flexibility in approach and attitude.
• Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi and in good standing.
