CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following position tenable at Lilongwe Branch.

CONSUMER LENDING UNDERWRITER

Reporting to the Administration and Collections Manager, the successful candidate will provide ongoing assessment of credit applications within Consumer Lending Loans and ensure compliance with the lending policy of the bank.

Key Responsibilities

  • To verify applications for consumer lending applications and ensuring that decisions taken and assessments made are compliant with bank’s consumer lending loan policy.
  • Accuracy in screening and auditing loan applications for credibility.
  • Quality check of received documents from the Data Capturing team.
  • Ensure that fraud prevention measures are applied consistently during the audit process.
  • Work closely with the Consumer Lending Data Capturers, Underwriting and sales department to ensure optimum efficiency and satisfactory turnaround times.
  • Approval and verification of loaded limits as per role codes and disburse funds VIA EFT.
  • Disbursement of loan within the prescribed time frames.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – ensure prompt follow up on returned / queried loans for maximum client satisfaction.
  • Filing (Record Keeping)
  • Maintain a record of number of loans approved daily, number of loans approved per branch, number of loans declined per branch and reason codes.
  • Ensure that third party settlements are forwarded to the relevant institutions for deletions and follow ups thereafter.
  • Product knowledge and fluency thereof.
  • Maintain suitable and adequate documentation of all work performed.
  • Actively assimilate the bank’s values as described in the Group Value statement and actively practice same.
  • Ad-hoc projects as may be required from you by management from time to time.
  • Reporting – Ensure timely and accurate reporting on all work done Daily, weekly, monthly etc.

Technical Skills/Competencies

  • Auditing and loan vetting skills
  • Team player
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience with payroll deduction system (Payment Solutions Malawi)

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in Commerce or equivalent qualification
  • Experience with payroll deduction system (Payment Solutions Malawi)
