Alliance One Tobacco (Malawi) is seeking applications for the position of:

CONTROLS AND TECHNICAL ACCOUNTANT

Reporting directly to the Technical Accounting Manager, the successful candidate will among other duties, be responsible for the following:-

Key responsibilities include:-

• Prepare and review financial statements, control environments, SOPs and Process Improvements.
• Manage asset and lease accounting
• Support capital expenditure and project finance processes.
• Ensure a strong internal control environment and support the organization’s compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
• Performing technical accounting reviews
• Assessing journal entries and key controls.
• Documenting processes, and supporting control testing to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
• Ensuring compliance with tax and other regulatory requirements.

Qualifications, Experience and Personal Attributes

• Bachelors Degree in Accountancy and ACCA qualification or equivalent professional accounting qualification
• Minimum of five (5) years post qualification experience in controls, technical, or audit and accounting roles.
• Strong knowledge of asset accounting, depreciation, and capital project finance.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics)
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into financial terms.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, technical environment.
• Integrity, trustworthy and ethically upright professional in good standing with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi.
