Job Overview

The Deck Officer will be responsible for safely operating and navigating patrol vessels during immigration enforcement and border control operations on Malawi’s waterways.

The Role

  • Operate and navigate patrol vessels safely
  • Ensure safety of crew and passengers at all times
  • Support marine immigration patrol operations
  • Maintain vessel readiness and basic operational standards

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and navigate patrol vessels in assigned areas
  • Ensure safety of crew members at all times
  • Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of the vessel
  • Monitor weather conditions and make informed operational decisions
  • Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, fuel usage, and patrol activities
  • Coordinate with relevant authorities during patrol missions
  • Ensure all safety equipment is functional and properly used
  • Supervise onboard crew and maintain discipline and teamwork
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and distress situations

Qualifications and Experience

  • Malawi Marine Training College Class 4 Certificate
  • Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
  • Advanced Diploma in Nautical Studies or Class 4 competency certificate (added advantage)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in marine vessel operation
  • Knowledge of maritime safety and navigation regulations
  • Age: 35–45 years
  • Safely operate and navigate patrol vessels in assigned areas
  • Ensure safety of crew members at all times
  • Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of the vessel
  • Monitor weather conditions and make informed operational decisions
