Job Overview
The Deck Officer will be responsible for safely operating and navigating patrol vessels during immigration enforcement and border control operations on Malawi’s waterways.
The Role
- Operate and navigate patrol vessels safely
- Ensure safety of crew and passengers at all times
- Support marine immigration patrol operations
- Maintain vessel readiness and basic operational standards
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate and navigate patrol vessels in assigned areas
- Ensure safety of crew members at all times
- Conduct routine inspections and basic maintenance of the vessel
- Monitor weather conditions and make informed operational decisions
- Maintain accurate records of vessel movements, fuel usage, and patrol activities
- Coordinate with relevant authorities during patrol missions
- Ensure all safety equipment is functional and properly used
- Supervise onboard crew and maintain discipline and teamwork
- Respond effectively to emergencies and distress situations
Qualifications and Experience
- Malawi Marine Training College Class 4 Certificate
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)
- Advanced Diploma in Nautical Studies or Class 4 competency certificate (added advantage)
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in marine vessel operation
- Knowledge of maritime safety and navigation regulations
- Age: 35–45 years
- Safely operate and navigate patrol vessels in assigned areas
