Thanthwe Medical Centre (TMC) in Lilongwe is expanding! We are a fast-growing private health facility committed to family-centred, patient-focused care.
Position Overview
The Dental Therapist will oversee day-to-day operations of the dental clinic, providing preventive and curative dental care in line with Thanthwe Medical Centre’s family-centred, quality-first approach. Services cover children and adults, with emphasis on both routine and advanced dental procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide preventive, restorative, and emergency dental care.
- Conduct oral examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
- Manage traumatic injuries and gum diseases.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene and preventive care.
- Perform procedures such as scaling, fillings, extractions, root canal therapy, crowns, and bridges.
- Undertake orthodontic therapy as per guidelines.
- Carry out advanced restorative procedures (veneers, dentures, adjustments, repairs).
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with clinic protocols.
- Conduct monthly equipment audits and ensure functionality of dental instruments.
- Implement infection prevention and control protocols.
- Report and address quality or safety concerns promptly.
- Collaborate with visiting dental therapists and surgeons for continuity of care.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Dental Therapy or Dental Surgery from a recognized institution.
- Valid license with the Medical Council of Malawi and proof of current registration.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a busy clinic/hospital dental unit.
- Competence in common dental procedures and modern equipment.
- Added advantage: experience in orthodontics (braces, retainers, adjustments).
- Excellent patient care, communication skills in English and Chichewa, and compassionate attitude.
- High integrity, respect for confidentiality, and ability to work independently.
Working Hours
40 hours/week, 8:00am – 5:00pm, with flexibility for weekends.
