INTRODUCTION

Air Cargo Malawi Ltd (ACM) is the nation’s leading cargo handling and air freight logistics enterprise, dedicated to delivering efficient, safe, and reliable cargo services at Kamuzu International Airport and other key locations. Sound financial management is fundamental to ACM’s operational continuity and strategic growth. To this end, the organization seeks a dynamic finance leader capable of overseeing accounting and treasury functions, ensuring strict adherence to public finance regulations, strengthening internal controls, and offering strategic counsel to management and the Board.

Given the demands of the current operating environment, ACM requires a hands-on Director who can enhance financial systems, accelerate reporting timelines, and mitigate fiscal risks, thereby enabling the Company to maintain its profitability and service delivery goals. In line with this need and the commitment to financial excellence, ACM invites applications from highly competent, results-oriented, and experienced accounting professionals for the position of Director of Finance.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance will:

  • Recommend, develop, and maintain appropriate systems and procedures to meet the accounting and financial management needs of the company.
  • Direct, lead, and perform oversight on all staff in the Finance Division.
  • Coordinate implementation of accounting policies and ensure compliance with the Public Finance Management Act, Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act, and Public Audit Act.
  • Manage all local and foreign bank accounts and investments for ACM.
  • Direct the formulation of the annual budget and monitor its implementation.
  • Ensure timely preparation of management accounts and submission of annual financial statements to the Board of Directors.
  • Manage local and foreign debtors and creditors of the company.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory financial obligations, including PAYE, VAT, and pension contributions.
  • Advise Management and the Board on financial matters, including investments.
  • Facilitate internal and external audits and direct the implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Be the Secretary of the Board of Directors.

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Academic

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accountancy, Economics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Commerce from an accredited institution.

Professional

  • ACCA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Must be registered with relevant professional boards such as ICAM.

COMPETENCIES (PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

The ideal candidate must:

  • Be assertive, a team builder with above-average communication and presentation skills.
  • Be results-oriented and able to deliver within agreed timelines.
  • Be of high integrity, without a criminal record.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer skills (Accounting software, MS Office).
  • Have strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk management abilities.
  • Possess knowledge of international trade or the airline industry (added advantage).

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of post-qualification work experience in a reputable institution with five (5) years at the senior management level.
  • Experience in the airfreight or logistics industry is a distinct advantage.
