We are seeking a motivated and experienced Economic Empowerment & Business Development Officer to support and strengthen our economic empowerment programmes, including livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and agribusiness initiatives, while also contributing to organisational business development and sustainability efforts.
Position Summary
The Economic Empowerment & Business Development Officer will support the design, implementation, and growth of HeR Liberty’s economic empowerment and livelihoods initiatives, while also strengthening the organisation’s business development and sustainability efforts.
The role focuses on empowering women and young people through skills development, entrepreneurship, agribusiness, and income-generating activities, while supporting partnerships, resource mobilisation, and social enterprise development for HeR Liberty.
Key Responsibilities
The Officer will be responsible for:
- Supporting the design and implementation of economic empowerment, livelihoods, and entrepreneurship projects targeting women and young people.
- Supporting small enterprise initiatives, including training, mentorship, and market linkages.
- Assisting communities and beneficiaries to develop basic business plans, costing, and record-keeping systems.
- Supporting business development and resource mobilisation efforts, including contributing to concept notes, proposals, and partnership opportunities.
- Identifying and strengthening private sector, cooperative, and market partnerships to support beneficiary and organisational enterprises.
- Supporting monitoring, documentation, and reporting on economic empowerment outcomes.
- Promoting Gender, Equity, and Social Inclusion (GESI)-responsive approaches to economic empowerment, ensuring inclusion of young women, people with disabilities, and marginalised groups.
- Supporting the development of income-generating or social enterprise models that contribute to HeR Liberty’s organisational sustainability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Development Studies, Agribusiness, Entrepreneurship, or a related field.
- At least three (3) years’ experience working on livelihoods, economic empowerment, or enterprise development programmes.
- Experience supporting women- or youth-focused economic initiatives.
- Basic experience in business development, proposal support, or partnership development.
- Experience working at community level and with cooperatives or informal enterprises.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong understanding of livelihoods and economic empowerment approaches.
- Basic business planning and financial literacy skills.
- Strong facilitation and community engagement skills.
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders, including private sector actors.
- Good reporting and documentation skills.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience supporting social enterprises or income-generating projects.
- Knowledge of Malawi’s local markets and SME ecosystem.
Terms and Conditions
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This position is based in Zomba, Malawi, and applications are encouraged from individuals residing in or near Zomba.
