Job Overview
The Education Officer is responsible for the planning, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Secondary/Tertiary Scholarship programs. The role ensures equitable access to quality education, improved learning outcomes, and effective student support systems in line with organizational and national education standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and execution of ECD and scholarship program activities, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies, work plans, and budgets.
- Provide training, mentorship, and continuous support to teachers, caregivers, and education stakeholders to enhance instructional quality and child development outcomes.
- Manage scholarship processes, including application, selection, award, disbursement, and maintenance of accurate student records and databases.
- Offer academic, career, and psychosocial guidance to students; monitor performance and support transitions from secondary to tertiary education and employment.
- Conduct regular field visits, collect and analyse program data, and prepare timely reports to assess performance and inform decision-making.
- Engage parents, communities, and local leaders to promote early learning, retention, inclusion, and equitable access to education opportunities.
- Collaborate with government agencies, schools, higher learning institutions, and development partners to ensure effective program delivery and sustainability.
- Ensure education programs meet national curriculum standards and organizational quality benchmarks, including child protection and inclusive education principles.
- Support budget planning, fund utilization, documentation, and compliance with donor and organizational policies.
- Identify gaps, conduct needs assessments, and design innovative interventions to improve access, retention, and learning outcomes across education levels.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in education programming (ECD and/or scholarship programs preferred)
- Experience working with NGOs, government, or community-based education programs
- Strong program management and coordination skills
- Excellent communication and report writing skills
- Ability to train and mentor education stakeholders
- Strong monitoring and evaluation skills
- Interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
- High level of integrity and accountability
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Willingness to travel frequently to field locations
- Commitment to child protection, safeguarding, and inclusive education principles
