Press Corporation Plc (PCL) invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the vacant position of Environmental and Social Officer tenable at its subsidiary, Press Energy Limited, in Nkhoma, Lilongwe.
Purpose of the Job
The Environmental and Social Officer is responsible for overseeing and supporting the implementation of environmental and social (E&S) management requirements for the Press Energy 50MW plus BESS Nkhoma Utility Scale Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant during the development and construction phases. The role ensures compliance with Malawian regulatory requirements, lender standards (including IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles), and Good International Industry Practice (GIIP), while supporting effective stakeholder engagement and contractor E&S performance on site.
This role demands a multidisciplinary skillset across Environmental, Social, Community liaison, Health & Safety and Security, as well as proven ability to manage contractors E&S, Health & Safety and Security.
Responsibilities or duties
The duties and responsibilities of the position will among others include the tollowing:
- Working knowledge of ESIA processes and development and implementation of EMPs and related management plans.
- Good understanding of Malawian environmental and social legislation and permitting requirements.
- Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles and GIIP.
- Experience with construction-phase E&S risk management and contractor compliance monitoring.
- Practical knowledge of stakeholder engagement, grievance management, and community health and safety.
- Ability to prepare clear E&S monitoring, compliance, and incident reports.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
We are looking for a hardworking, ethical and dedicated individual with strict attention to detail. Applicants should possess the following attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Social Science, Sociology, Development Studies, or related discipline.
- Knowledge of environmental and social regulations, standards, and best practices, including occupational health and safety requirements.
Experience needed
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in Environmental & Social (E&S) management on infrastructure, energy, or construction projects.
Hands-on experience on-site during construction phases, ensuring compliance with E&S requirements.
Proven ability to develop, implement, and monitor Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).
Experience in stakeholder engagement with local communities, contractors, and regulatory authorities.

Strong reporting, documentation, and communication skills, including preparation of compliance reports
