Job Summary
Wasabi Capital Limited is seeking a detail-oriented Finance Officer to manage financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance, and support our mission of providing affordable credit to underserved communities. This role reports to the Chief Executive Officer and involves hands-on accounting, reporting, and analysis in a fast-paced microfinance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including daily transaction reconciliations for loan disbursements, repayments, and client savings.
- Generate monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, and portfolio-at-risk analyses to monitor loan performance and liquidity.
- Ensure compliance with Malawi’s microfinance regulations, tax laws, and internal policies.
- Manage accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and budgeting for branch operations.
- Conduct internal audits, identify financial risks, and recommend improvements to lending processes.
- Collaborate with loan officers to verify client data and support portfolio quality.
- Prepare donor reports and assist with audits from external regulators or funders.
Qualities and Qualifications
- Part Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ICAM) or Bachelor’s degree in accountancy from a recognized Institution.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a busy accounting department.
- Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks) and MS Excel.
- Strong understanding of financial ratios and risk management in lending.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a high-volume transaction setting.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skill.
- Fluent in English and Chichewa.
What We Offer
Salary (MK 700,000–800,000/month, based on experience) and Medical Aid.
