Role and Responsibilities
The Financial Controller will provide strategic financial leadership and oversight to ensure sound financial management, compliance, and long-term sustainability of the organisation.
- Advise the Group Managing Director on financial matters in his capacity as MBL Group of Companies Controlling Officer
- Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy to support sustainable operations
- Provide strategic financial leadership to the Board and Executive Management through financial analysis and guidance
- Guide and oversee the overall finance function in line with company goals and Performance Management System (PMS) requirements
- Ensure timely preparation of:
- Annual Performance Management Plans and Budgets, including revisions, in accordance with MBL Holdings policies
- Integrated Strategic Plans
- Audited financial statements in compliance with IFRS and relevant legislation
- Other financial reports to support strategic planning, resource mobilisation, and stakeholder engagement
- Liaise with and support external auditors and other authorised oversight bodies on financial performance and governance matters
- Oversee financial policies and procedures to ensure effective financial management
- Ensure timely collection of debtors to maintain liquidity
- Ensure optimum stock holding levels are maintained
- Monitor financial performance against targets and manage the accounting function
- Approve optimal financial structures for projects, balancing equity, debt, and alternative financing sources
- Oversee project accounting, including tracking work-in-progress (WIP) against budgets and measuring financial, environmental, and social benefits
- Ensure compliance with financial, tax, and statutory regulations
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, and debt
- Work closely with budget holders across departments
- Support organisational growth through effective process transitions and implementation of strong internal controls
- Ensure investments align with the company’s long-term strategy
- Ensure compliance with taxation requirements in line with the Taxation Act
- Attend Board meetings and present management and performance reports
- Oversee timely and accurate preparation of company accounts and present Annual Accounts to Shareholders
- Establish and maintain working relationships with external stakeholders and represent MBL Holdings Group of Companies when required
- Present Performance Management Plans and budget reports to the Group Managing Director and Board for approval
- Support commercial negotiations and capital sourcing initiatives
- Liaise with other departments to ensure resourcing, procurement, and stock management align with sound financial practices
- Minimise financial and governance risks through effective internal controls, cost-benefit analysis, credit control, and budgetary and treasury management
- Advise on value for money, financial viability, and compliance with financial requirements
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Group Managing Director
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Proven working experience as a Financial Controller
- Minimum of five (5) years’ combined experience in accounting and finance
- Advanced degree in Accounting or Finance
- Professional certification such as CPA or CMA is preferred
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Experience in preparing financial statements
- Strong experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end closing processes
- Excellent accounting software user and system administration skills

- Conversant with relevant government laws and regulations
- Good interpersonal skills
