Background
National Bank of Malawi plc, a leading financial institution in Malawi, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to fill the post of Financial Reporting Manager tenable at its Head Office in Blantyre.
The main purpose of the job is to manage the financial reporting process by maintaining financial records in compliance with all international financial reporting standards (IFRSs), preparing regulatory and external financial reports, managing tax affairs, fixed assets, Management Information System (MIS) reports, coordinating resolution of all internal and external audit issues.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Finance Officer, the successful candidate will, among other duties, be responsible for:
- Developing and/or enhancing systems of maintaining financial records in compliance with all IFRSs.
- Preparing and submitting regular regulatory reports.
- Preparing external financial reports including ensuring that the information provided in the reports is accurate.
- Preparing annual financial statements and ensuring that the information provided in the Annual report is accurate.
- Coordinating with other internal business units to ensure that Expected Credit Losses (ECLs) and other provisions have been fairly presented and properly accounted for.
- Managing the Tax affairs of the Bank and its subsidiaries.
- Managing the Bank’s Fixed Assets.
- Facilitating financial planning and reporting financial performance with detailed variance analysis for Finance Division.
- Providing MIS reports.
- Ensuring resolution of internal and external audit issues.
Qualifications and Experience
Requirements for the ideal candidates are as follows:
- Must be a Chartered Accountant – CA (M) or equivalent with at least 7 years post qualification experience.
- Possession of a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance or any other relevant field from a recognized university will be an added advantage.
- Not less than 3 years’ experience at managerial level in financial services or in a reputable external audit firm.
- Excellent understanding and application of the International Financial Reporting Standards.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to develop and effectively supervise direct reports.
- Good understanding of the commercial banking industry, including knowledge of financial products, services, and market trends.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet exacting deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as Financial Services Act, Banking Act, Reserve Bank of Malawi Directives, Malawi Company Law, and Taxation Law.
- Good Information Technology skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, MIS applications like Cognos, and core banking systems.
- Good analytical skills, a sense of drive and self-motivation.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
