Role and Responsibilities
The Group Management Accountant will provide appropriate financial support to help the company budget effectively and improve overall performance. The role involves strategic financial leadership across the MBL Group of Companies.
- Advise the Group Managing Director on all financial matters in his capacity as the MBL Group of Companies Controlling Officer
- Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy to ensure long-term sustainability
- Provide strategic financial leadership to the Board and Executive Management through financial analysis and guidance
- Guide and oversee the overall finance function in line with company goals and Performance Management System (PMS) requirements
- Ensure timely production of:
- Annual Performance Management Plans and Budgets, including budget revisions, in line with MBL Holdings policies
- Integrated Strategic Plans
- Audited financial statements in accordance with IFRS and relevant legislation
- Other financial reports to support strategic planning, resource mobilisation, and stakeholder engagement
- Liaise with and support external auditors and all authorised oversight and evaluation processes
- Oversee financial policies and procedures to ensure effective financial management
- Ensure timely collection of debtors to maintain company liquidity
- Ensure the company maintains optimum stock holding
- Monitor financial performance against set targets and manage the accounting function
- Approve optimal financial structures for projects, balancing equity, debt, and other financing sources
- Oversee project accounting, including tracking work-in-progress (WIP) against budgets and measuring benefits (financial, environmental, and social)
- Ensure compliance with financial, tax, and statutory regulations
- Manage cash flow, liquidity, and debt
- Work closely with budget holders across the organisation
- Support organisational growth through process transition and implementation of strong internal controls
- Ensure company investments align with long-term strategic objectives
- Ensure taxation obligations are met in line with the Taxation Act
- Attend Board meetings and present management and performance reports
- Oversee timely and accurate preparation of company accounts and present Annual Accounts to Shareholders
- Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and represent MBL Holdings Group of Companies when required
- Present Performance Management Plans and budget reports to the Group Managing Director and Board for approval
- Support commercial negotiations and capital sourcing
- Liaise with other departments to ensure effective financial management of resourcing, procurement, and stock holding
- Minimise financial and governance risks through effective internal controls, cost-benefit analysis, credit control, and budgetary and treasury controls
- Advise on value for money, financial viability, and compliance with financial requirements
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Group Managing Director
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Proven experience as a Management Accountant, Accounting Supervisor, or similar role
- Solid knowledge of basic and advanced accounting and financial principles and practices
- Excellent knowledge of cost accounting and reporting
- Strong understanding of risk analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
- Working knowledge of financial software and Microsoft Office
- Strong analytical skills with aptitude in mathematics
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong problem-solving ability with high attention to detail
- Organisational and leadership skills
- Bachelor’s degree (BSc/BA) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Relevant professional certification such as CMA or CGMA will be an added advantage
