Post Objective
The HR Manager will support Astria Learning’s operations in Malawi by leading end-to-end HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, payroll coordination, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and policy implementation. The role ensures HR processes align with both local labor regulations and Astria Learning’s global standards.
1.0 Key Responsibilities
1.1 Recruitment & Staffing
- Manage recruitment lifecycle (job postings, screening, interviews, offers)
- Plan workforce needs based on business growth and departmental requirements
- Coordinate onboarding and probation assessments
1.2 HR Administration
- Maintain employee records, HR files, and documentation
- Coordinate contract drafting, renewals, extensions, and terminations
- Manage time & attendance tracking and leave management
1.3 Payroll & Compensation
- Prepare monthly payroll inputs and liaise with Finance for processing
- Support salary revisions, promotions, transfers, and incentive programs
- Maintain confidentiality of payroll and compensation data
1.4 Compliance & Labor Relations
- Ensure compliance with Malawian labor laws and regulations
- Guide management on disciplinary procedures and conflict resolution
- Update HR policies as required to match market and legal standards
1.5 Performance & Culture
- Drive performance management cycles (KPIs, reviews, feedback)
- Support training and development needs assessment
- Foster positive workplace culture, employee engagement, and retention
1.6 Reporting & Coordination
- Prepare HR analytics reports for leadership (headcount, turnover, hiring pipelines)
- Liaise with global HR counterparts to ensure alignment in standards and systems
- Participate in cross-functional operations when required (BD, Admin, etc.)
2.0 Qualifications & Experience
2.1 Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field
- 4+ years in HR role (preferably managerial or senior specialist level)
- Understanding of Malawian labor law and HR compliance
- Payroll management and HR administrative experience
2.2 Preferred Experience
- Experience in education, tech, BPO, or international operational environments
- Prior involvement in scaling HR processes and supporting fast-growth teams
2.3 Skills & Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity and confidentiality
- Problem-solving and conflict management abilities
- Organized, process-driven, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable with digital tools (HRIS, spreadsheets, email, basic reporting)
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
