The Head Housekeeper is responsible for the planning, organisation, supervision, and continuous improvement of all housekeeping operations at Cliff View Hotel. The role ensures that guest rooms, public areas, conference facilities, offices, laundry, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and presentation. The Head Housekeeper is responsible for managing departmental budgets, controlling linen and operating supplies, developing housekeeping staff, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience through consistently high housekeeping standards.
Responsibilities or duties
Housekeeping Operations
- Plan, organise, and supervise all housekeeping activities.
- Ensure guest rooms, corridors, public areas, meeting rooms, offices, and staff facilities are cleaned and maintained to hotel standards.
- Conduct daily inspections of guest rooms and public areas.
- Ensure rooms are prepared according to arrival priorities.
- Monitor room status and coordinate with the Front Office on room availability.
- Ensure lost and found procedures are strictly followed.
- Maintain cleanliness standards throughout the hotel at all times.
Guest Room Management
- Ensure all guest rooms are thoroughly cleaned, inspected, and ready before check-in.
- Monitor room amenities, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Ensure VIP rooms receive special attention and personalised presentation.
- Coordinate room deep-cleaning programmes.
- Ensure rooms are maintained according to four-star hospitality standards.
Public Area Management
- Maintain spotless lobbies, restaurants, conference rooms, washrooms, staircases, and outdoor guest areas.
- Ensure public areas remain clean throughout operating hours.
- Coordinate cleaning schedules during conferences, weddings, and events.
- Monitor landscaping and exterior presentation in collaboration with the Maintenance team.
Laundry & Linen Management
- Oversee hotel laundry operations.
- Ensure efficient washing, drying, ironing, and distribution of linen and uniforms.
- Maintain linen inventory and par stock levels.
- Control linen losses and damage.
- Coordinate uniform issuance and replacement.
- Ensure laundry equipment is properly maintained.
Inventory & Cost Control
- Prepare departmental budgets.
- Monitor expenditure on cleaning chemicals, linen, uniforms, and guest supplies.
- Control housekeeping operating costs.
- Conduct monthly inventory counts.
- Maintain stock records and reorder supplies as required.
- Minimise wastage and prevent pilferage.
Quality Assurance
- Develop and maintain housekeeping Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct routine quality inspections.
- Ensure all guest rooms meet inspection standards before release.
- Monitor guest feedback relating to cleanliness.
- Implement corrective actions where standards fall below expectations.
Health, Safety & Hygiene
- Ensure compliance with hotel hygiene standards and occupational health and safety regulations.
- Ensure correct handling and storage of cleaning chemicals.
- Train staff on safe working practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections.
- Report maintenance and safety hazards promptly.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety and emergency procedures.
Maintenance Coordination
- Inspect guest rooms for maintenance defects.
- Report repairs through the maintenance system.
- Follow up to ensure timely completion of maintenance work.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance programmes with the Engineering Department.
- Verify repaired rooms before returning them to service.
Team Leadership & Human Resource Management
- Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor housekeeping staff.
- Prepare duty rosters and work schedules.
- Conduct performance appraisals.
- Coach employees on cleaning techniques and customer service.
- Promote teamwork, professionalism, and accountability.
- Manage disciplinary matters in accordance with hotel policies.
- Identify training and development needs.
Environmental Sustainability
- Promote environmentally responsible housekeeping practices.
- Implement water and energy conservation initiatives.
- Encourage responsible use of chemicals and cleaning materials.
- Support waste reduction and recycling programmes.
