Responsibilities or duties
Hearing and determining matters falling within the jurisdiction of the High Court of Malawi and adjudicating such cases impartially and independently in strict accordance with the Constitution and all applicable laws.
Qualifications or requirements
Applicants should be suitably qualified persons who are of high integrity, capable and committed to handling large volumes of work, in possession of a minimum of a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from accredited institutions and:
- are fit and proper to exercise the functions of the office of Judge;
- have, before the appointment, not been convicted by a competent court of a criminal offence and sentenced to a term of imprisonment without the option of a fine; and
- are, or have been a judge of a court having unlimited jurisdiction in criminal or civil proceedings; or
- are entitled to practice as a legal practitioner or an advocate or a solicitor in such court and have been entitled so to practice for not less than ten (10) years.
