The Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) is a semi-subvented government parastatal established by Order, Government Notice No. 60 of 1979, under the Education Act (CAP. 30.01). MIE is mandated to design and develop curricula, conduct educational research, monitor and evaluate the national school and primary teacher education curricula, and provide continuing professional development for education personnel. The Institute also publishes and evaluates curriculum materials to ensure that education meets the present and future needs of Malawian society.
To fulfil this mandate, MIE invites applications from suitably qualified Malawian nationals for the following positions, tenable at the Malawi Institute of Education, Domasi in Zomba District:
Purpose of the Job
To provide human resource management and development services.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Implement the institution’s terms and conditions of service, policies and procedures in line with labour legislation.
- Organise and coordinate recruitment, selection and placement of staff.
- Maintain accurate HR records.
- Process payroll.
- Handle disciplinary and grievance matters in accordance with policy.
- Enforce adherence to HR policies and regulations.
- Conduct training needs assessment and coordinate training programmes.
- Prepare periodic HR reports.
- Allocate work and appraise staff.
Qualification and other requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management plus at least three (3) years’ relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of Human Resource Information System (HRIS), payroll systems and MS excel.
- Sound knowledge of Malawi labour laws and employment regulations.
- Membership of the Institute of People Management Malawi (IPMM) or equivalent professional body.
- Experience in recruitment, performance management, handling disciplinary procedures and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated high level of integrity and confidentiality.
