Job Purpose:
To teach Chichewa Literature, fostering a deep appreciation of the language, oral traditions, and written literary works. The role is crucial for promoting the preservation and development of Chichewa as an academic and official language.
Key Responsibilities:
- Literature Instruction: Teach courses in Chichewa oral literature (folktales, proverbs, myths) and written literature (novels, poetry, drama).
- Language Proficiency: Enhance students' fluency, grammatical accuracy, and creative writing skills in Chichewa.
- Translation: Teach the nuances of translation between Chichewa and English.
- Cultural Preservation: Engage in research to document and analyze contemporary and traditional Chichewa literary works.
- Assessment: Evaluate student essays, oral presentations, and creative projects.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: Master’s degree in Literature, Linguistics, or African Languages with a focus on Chichewa.
- Experience: Published works in Chichewa or extensive research in Chichewa literature is a strong advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Native or near-native fluency in Chichewa.
- Strong understanding of literary analysis and criticism.
- Passion for cultural heritage and linguistics.
