Background
St John’s Institute for Health (formerly called St John’s College of Nursing & Midwifery) is one of the eleven (11) Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) member training colleges operating in Malawi. The Institute was opened in 1963 by the Medical Missionary of Mary Sisters (MMM) and is the Health Training Arm of the Catholic Health Commission, under the proprietorship of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu.
VACANCIES
A. ACADEMIC DEPARTMENT
Lecturers in Paediatrics & Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Surgery (Grade I)
Reporting to: Head of Clinical Medicine Department
Qualifications/Requirements
- BSc in Paediatrics and Child Health, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Surgery, Clinical Medicine, MBBS or any other related qualification obtained from a recognised and accredited training institution.
- Must be registered and have renewed the Licence with the Medical Council of Malawi. A higher qualification is an added advantage.
- A minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience at a tertiary health facility or an academic institution.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and with good communication skills.
Duties
- Assess student training needs
- Prepare for classroom instruction
- Teach the specified curriculum in the classroom
- Supervise student clinical practice in liaison with clinical staff and clinical teacher
- Monitor and evaluate students’ progress in the classroom and clinical practice
- Provide individual and group tutorial work
- Participate in Curriculum Review
REMUNERATION
St Johns Institute for Health will provide remuneration packages as prescribed by CHAM and the Government. However, the Board of Governors may solicit motivational packages and offer the most competitive conditions for its employees.
