Background

Ekwendeni College of Health Sciences (ECOHS), established in 1946 is a constituent college of the University of Livingstonia and a member institution of the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM). The College is owned by the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia and is committed to the training of competent healthcare professionals grounded in Christian values and guided by strong professional ethics. The College aims at providing a conducive teaching and learning environment that promotes excellence in health sciences education and contributes to the strengthening of Malawi’s healthcare system. To achieve this goal, ECOHS continuously strives to strengthen its academic and administrative structures in order to support effective service delivery and institutional growth. Therefore, the College wishes to fill the existing gaps and invites suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions.

Position Details

Position: Lecturers

Grade: I (Government Scale)

Reports to: Head of Department

Contract Terms: Full time

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in any of the following, Medical Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences or Pharmacy.
  • Those with Master’s degree in a relevant field will have an added advantage.
  • Registered with a relevant regulatory body: Medical Council of Malawi (MCM) or Pharmacy Medicine Regulatory Authority (PMRA).
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching and clinical experience.
  • A committed Christian.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess students learning needs.
  • Prepare for classroom instruction.
  • Teach the specified curriculum in the classroom.
  • Supervise students clinical practice in liaison with clinical staff and clinical teachers
  • Monitor and evaluate student’s progress in the classroom and in clinical practice.
  • Provide individual and group tutorial work.
  • Develop students ability to provide holistic patient care Encourage students awareness of their opportunity to care spiritually
  • Attend workshop and continuing education to update knowledge and skills
  • Participate in curriculum review.
  • Encourage hospital and health center in charges to take active role in training students.
  • Carry out administrative duties as assigned by the Principal.
  • Attend relevant hospital committee meetings.
  • Contribute to the management and administration of the college
  • Participate in community life of the college and hospital
  • Maintain appropriate record for each student.
  • Encourage students’ awareness of their opportunity to care spiritually for their patients.
  • Assisting In planning and teaching in-service education courses.
  • Act as a resource person.
  • Participate in budget meetings and responsibilities.
  • Participate in strategic management reviews or meetings.
  • Attend faculty, hospital, college and other relevant meetings.
  • Planning student’s theory and clinical teaching and learning for Pharmacy students according to the authorized syllabus.
  • Sourcing for training and learning materials.
  • Teach the specified curriculum in the class room.
  • Teach students in the clinical area in collaboration with clinical staff.
  • Assessing and evaluating student’s theoretically practical abilities and general behavior.
  • Submitting reports to the Head of departments.
  • Participate in service training.
  • Collaborating with other significant stake holders.
