Background
Marymount Catholic Secondary School was opened on 29th January, 1963. The school is located on the Southern part of the plot of land owned by the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu. It is situated along the Chimaliro Road, about eight kilometres from the hub of Mzuzu City. Although the school is based in Mzuzu, its catchment area covers all districts in Malawi.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified, committed Christians to fill the vacant positions tenable at Marymount Catholic Secondary School.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be answerable to the Operations Manager – Academics, through the Head of Department, Languages. He/She will be responsible for:
- Cataloguing and classifying new books and enter them into an accession register.
- Lending and collecting books.
- Making catalogue cards.
- Returning books to correct shelves.
- Taking stock of books.
- Dusting and cleaning books, shelves, tables, floor and windows.
- Maintaining law and order in the Library.
- Recording overdue books and losses.
- Maintenance/Binding Books.
- Identifying subject needs.
- Training students on the use of the library/students on attachment.
- Drilling students in the safety measures.
- Budgeting with HODs.
- Formulating rules and regulations and making sure that they are adhered to by both staff and students.
- Submitting end of term/year stock levels and general conditions of the library.
- Computerising the library system.
- Raising a levy on all overdue books and depositing the same to the accounts office.
Qualifications
- Certificate in Library Studies.
- Must have at least 5 years experience in a similar position.
- Must be between the age of 25–35 years.
- Must be a practicing Christian.
- Must be sober-minded and honest.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be a self-starter.
- Must be fluent in English communication.
- Retired teachers have an added advantage.
