Every person and position is eagerly looking for opportunities to directly mobilize ministry through our volunteers and donors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- work with Lutheran Church of Central Africa Malawi Synod (LCCA:M) congregations and communities throughout Malawi to grow their ability to serve people in their community
- engage volunteers from LCCA:M congregations and the surrounding communities to collaborate on water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions meant to improve the health and wellness of their communities
- lead health promotion trainings designed to equip volunteers to disseminate accurate and useful health information to their communities
- assist with monitoring and evaluation efforts in designated program areas
- establish and maintain relationships with key volunteers, pastors, church leaders, and relevant health workers
- collect and enter quarterly reports from local volunteer teams
- help with translating program materials
- work with WASH Officer and Malawi Field Lead on expanding WASH programming to new locations. This will involve site visits, community assessments, building relationships with volunteers, and modifying KW WASH curriculum to specific community needs
- develop annual plans with WASH Team and follow through on assigned implementing responsibilities
- providing ongoing support toward volunteer teams’ community health goals through regular visits
- collaborate with coworkers in other countries and participate in WASH peer groups
- submit regular expense reports
- other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, and Characteristics:
- must demonstrate alignment with Kingdom Workers’ Statement of Faith
- degree or diploma (with over 2 years of experience) in a relevant field (Public Health, Community Development, Sanitation, etc.)
- desire to work cross-culturally and serve with a collaborative team
- ability to participate in a work environment that fosters open and honest two-way communication
- ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and deliver quality results on time, while working on multiple projects simultaneously
- must possess strong communication skills
- be comfortable with the use of technology and software platforms
- have proven ability to work cross-culturally while building relationships and working collaboratively with others
- Primary & Secondary Schooling (K-12)
Location and Travel Expectations:
- position is based in Blantyre for approximately 10 months, with regular travel throughout the country. After the initial 10-month period, the Malawi WASH Coordinator will relocate to Lilongwe
- position is required to be on-site
- ability to travel 50% of the time
- ability to travel by road, ai,r or other means as may be encountered in a developing country
- ability to happily spend time and work in remote areas
- valid passport, or ability to obtain one, required
- valid driver’s license required
Other Conditions:
- frequently required to walk, sit, stand, and/or lift up to 30 pounds
- frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
- continually required to talk and hear
- occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, including outdoor exposure
- occasional exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
