About the Assignment:

A start-up service business is conducting a market survey in Lilongwe to assess demand for convenience-based services. We are seeking a dedicated and results-driven individual to support data collection and basic analysis within a two-week period.

Position Overview:

The Market Research Assistant will be responsible for conducting field surveys, collecting accurate data, and supporting basic monitoring and evaluation (M&E) processes to ensure data quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct surveys and interviews with selected respondents across Lilongwe
  • Accurately capture and record responses using provided tools
  • Ensure completeness and consistency of collected data
  • Provide daily progress updates and field reports
  • Support basic data verification and validation processes
  • Assist in organizing data for analysis and reporting

Qualifications & Education:

  • Minimum of a Diploma in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Training or coursework in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), Research Methods, or Data Management will be an added advantage
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage respondents professionally and confidently
  • Basic understanding of data collection methods and survey techniques
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation principles (data quality, accuracy, consistency)
  • Good analytical and organizational skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with Lilongwe areas and communities

Data Collection & Analysis Tools (Required)

  • Knowledge of mobile data collection tools (e.g., Google Forms, KoboToolbox, or ODK)
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical tools or software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, or Excel) is an added advantage

Experience:

  • Previous experience in market research, surveys, or data collection is preferred

Other Requirements:

  • Must have access to a smartphone
  • Must be available full-time for the duration of the assignment
  • Ability to move around Lilongwe for fieldwork
