The Role We are seeking an experienced and highly driven Marketplace Growth Lead to build and scale the seller and commercial ecosystem for Tambala Market and future products. This role is focused on merchant acquisition, partnerships, and marketplace expansion—ensuring a diverse, high-quality supply of sellers and products across Malawi. You will spend significant time in the field engaging businesses, building relationships, closing partnerships, and activating the seller community in collaboration with the broader team. Responsibilities

1. Merchant Acquisition & Ecosystem Development

  • Identify, onboard, and manage merchants across priority categories including electronics, fashion, beauty, home goods, agriculture, and everyday retail.
  • Collaborate with business associations, entrepreneur networks, and trade groups to expand seller participation.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with trade associations, SME groups, and entrepreneurial communities.
  • Organize and manage seller meetups, workshops, Tambala Market activations, and product showcase events.

2. Revenue Growth & Commercial Opportunities

  • Identify and execute opportunities that drive merchant success and platform revenue.
  • Support and close commercial partnerships that increase merchant sales and marketplace activity.
  • Provide insights on merchant performance to inform marketing campaigns, growth strategies and contribute to the overall performance and growth of the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is an added advantage but not necessary).
  • 3+ years of experience in sales, business development, partnerships, or marketplace operations.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and close deals with businesses.
  • Experience working with SMEs, retailers, or merchant networks is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Entrepreneurial experience (building a business, whether successful or not) is a strong advantage.

Essential Skills

  • Strong entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Excellent networking and relationship-building capabilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify growth opportunities.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives and coordinate events effectively.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration, especially with marketing and product teams.
