Position Details

Position Title: Mine Blaster
Department: Mines
Location: Kasungu Factory
Reporting to: Head of Department (Mines)

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Planning and carrying out blasting activities in accordance with approved mine plans and procedures.
• Handling, preparing and using explosives safely and in accordance with applicable laws and company procedures.
• Charging blast holes and connecting detonators and initiation systems as instructed.
• Conducting pre-blast inspections and ensuring that blasting areas are properly secured.
• Ensuring that all personnel and equipment are cleared from the designated blasting zone before firing.
• Carrying out post-blast inspections and reporting any misfires or other blasting abnormalities immediately.
• Maintaining accurate records of explosives received, used and returned.
• Ensuring safe storage, transportation and handling of explosives.
• Working closely with drillers, mining supervisors and other production personnel.
• Identifying and reporting unsafe conditions, hazards and incidents.
• Maintaining blasting equipment and ensuring it is in safe working condition.
• Complying with all occupational health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Performing any other duties reasonably assigned by management.

Education & Experience

Applicants should have:

• A Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
• A valid blasting certificate/licence or other legally required blasting qualification in Malawi.
• At least 3–5 years’ proven experience as a Mine Blaster or in a similar position in a mining environment.
