Zomba Diocese Health Commission operates under the Social Directorate of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba. Its mission is to advance the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by promoting human life and providing preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services in a holistic manner. This is achieved through participation in collaborative networks and partnerships, aligned with the needs and capacities of the communities, and in accordance with Catholic core values and principles, to ensure the delivery of the high- quality services, the Commission is seeking to recruit motivated and experienced individuals for the following vacant positions at one of its health facilities St. Robert Health Centre (Sitima).

Responsibilities or duties

The Nurse Midwife Technician is responsible for providing friendly general nursing and midwifery care to patient and their families that is appropriate, effective and efficient in respectful and caring manner regardless of personal characteristics. They are also involved in conducting health talks that helps patients and their families, students, colleagues and communities to learn more about health care and make informed choices.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

College Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery from reputable training institution

Registered with Nurses and Midwife Council of Malawi

Experience needed

Motivated and experienced individuals

  • Providing general nursing care to patients using the nursing/midwifery process
  • Administer medication and treatment to patients and clients and where necessary using Direct Observation Therapy (DOT)
  • Assist patients under their care to meet activities of daily living
  • Observe patient’s condition and progress and report accordingly
  • Make necessary preparations and after care of equipment for treatment
  • Promote clean and safe environment for patient care and consequently promote infection prevention
  • Adhere to precautions of infection prevention and control practices
  • Collaborate with other health workers in meeting specific needs of patients
  • Build therapeutic relationship with patients guardians and fellow health workers
  • Document and maintains accurate records of all nursing care to activities performed
  • Reports comprehensively and accurately individual patient care to the ward in charge or doctor
  • Conduct proper handover of all patients under his/her care bed by bed for continuity of nursing care
  • Maintains professional code of conduct at all times
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings
  • Conduct Health Education Sessions to patients in the wards and outpatient department
  • Participate in profession activities
  • Adhere to continuous professional development
  • Preforms any other duties assigned from time to time
  • Well conversant with the Health system in Malawi
  • Ability to work independently
