Role Overview

Lead and manage all poultry operations across farms (layers, breeders, hatchery)

Ensure optimal production performance, cost efficiency, and biosecurity compliance

Drive continuous improvement in flock performance, staff capability, and operational systems

Key Responsibilities

Production & Performance

Oversee day-to-day operations across all poultry sites

Monitor and improve key KPIs:

  • Egg production % vs target
  • Mortality rates
  • Feed conversion ratios (FCR)
  • Egg size and quality distribution

Ensure timely and efficient depletion and placement planning

Drive improvements in onset of lay and peak production performance

Farm Management

  • Supervise farm managers and ensure proper execution of daily routines
  • Maintain optimal stocking densities, lighting programs, and environmental control
  • Ensure correct feed programs across all stages
  • Oversee water, ventilation, and equipment functionality

Hatchery Operations

  • Manage hatchery performance including hatchability %, chick quality, and throughput
  • Coordinate egg flow, egg age management, and setting plans
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of hatchery equipment

Biosecurity & Health

  • Enforce strict biosecurity protocols across all sites
  • Implement and monitor vaccination programs
  • Work closely with veterinarians on disease prevention and control
  • Respond rapidly to health issues (e.g., AI risks, mortality spikes)

People Management

  • Lead, train, and develop farm and hatchery teams
  • Set clear KPIs and accountability structures
  • Ensure discipline, planning, and communication standards are maintained
  • Build a strong second layer of management

Supply Chain & Planning

  • Coordinate with feed mill, procurement, and logistics teams
  • Ensure availability of feed, vaccines, and consumables
  • Manage bird movements, sales, and distribution planning

Systems & Reporting

  • Utilize ERP systems (e.g., Syspro) to track production and stock
  • Analyze data to identify performance gaps and implement corrective actions
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports

Cost Control

  • Manage cost per bird
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement cost-saving initiatives
  • Control labour, feed, and operational expenses

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience in poultry operations (layers, breeders, or hatchery)
  • Strong understanding of poultry production systems and KPIs
  • Experience managing multiple sites and teams
  • Knowledge of vaccination programs and biosecurity standards
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with ERP systems (Syspro advantageous)
  • Hands-on, results-driven, and highly operational
