Latitude 13 Degrees in Lilongwe is seeking a suitably qualified, self-motivated, and dedicated individual to fill the position of Porter / Steward.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, well-maintained, and organized at all times.
  • Keep floors clean and dry at all times.
  • Operate industrial dishwashers efficiently.
  • Wash, wipe, sort, and stack dishes; load and unload dishwashers.
  • Store cleaned items safely and in an organized manner.
  • Clean and sanitize pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment following procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of floors and walls in kitchen and dishwashing areas.
  • Clean large kitchen equipment as assigned.
  • Follow SDS (Safety Data Sheet) guidelines for safe chemical use.
  • Maintain a hygienic working environment in line with company standards.
  • Collect and remove trash from all operational areas.
  • Dispose of waste according to hotel and regulatory standards, including recycling.
  • Keep waste bin areas clean and tidy.
  • Monitor chemical levels and inventory.
  • Remove broken or chipped items and update inventory records.
  • Clean, sanitize, and close workstations.
  • Report maintenance or hazard issues to the chef.
  • Assist with light food preparation when required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Skills and Specifications

  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods.
  • Physically capable of bending, lifting, reaching, and carrying heavy loads.
  • Comfortable working with cleaning chemicals and safety equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand safety materials and workplace documents.
  • Flexible and able to work nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Qualifications

  • Prior cleaning experience is required.

Working Conditions

  • Flexible and sometimes long working hours.
  • Medium physical work involving lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods or entire shifts.
