Job Title: PRIVATE SECTOR ENGAGEMENT AND PARTNERSHIP MANAGER

Job Location(s): Malawi – Lilongwe

JOB SUMMARY:

What began in 1945 as a box of post-war assistance has, over eight decades, evolved into a broader philosophy of humanitarian response shaped by operational learning, adaptation, and changing forms of crisis. The original CARE PACKAGE®, distributed to war-affected families across Europe, reflected an enduring principle: assistance should be practical, timely, and dignity-preserving at moments of profound disruption. As humanitarian need became more frequent, protracted, and complex, response models evolved accordingly. Humanitarian systems moved from one-off distributions toward more integrated multisector assistance; from centralized logistics toward more localized and distributed delivery models; and from purely in-kind approaches toward hybrid response strategies that combine material support, services, and cash.

CARE PACKAGE® for Emergencies (CP4E) represents a contemporary expression of that evolution. It carries forward the ethos of the original CARE PACKAGE® but translates it into an operational model suited to present-day humanitarian realities: climate-driven hazards, displacement under uncertainty, constrained access, tighter financing environments, and growing expectations of speed, accountability, quality, and measurable effectiveness.

The Private Sector Engagement and Partnerships Manager is responsible for accelerating the adoption, sustainability, and scale of CP4E. The role leads market development, strategic partnerships, and commercialization efforts to ensure CP4E achieve both impact and financial sustainability. The manager will also coordinate the work of external consultants who are hired to support this work and lead development and implementation of regional hubs. The Manager works closely with Humanitarian Team, country/regional offices, private-sector partners, governments, NGOs, and investors to build viable pathways for scaling this innovative solution that improves outcomes for vulnerable communities impacted by disasters.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Commercialization Strategy and Market Development

  • Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of commercialization prospects whose interests and capabilities align with defined CP4E partnership opportunities.
  • Coordinate and manage the work of external consultant and cross functional team and finalize CP4E commercialization and partnership strategy.
  • Conduct market research and competitive analyses to identify new markets, customer segments, and channels for scaling CP4E solutions.
  • Connect and coordinate with other humanitarian agencies, local NGOs and host government and position CP4E as a preferred and acceptable response modality for all.
  • Map and prioritize companies, corporate foundations, business networks and other relevant private sector actors by strategic fit, geography and partnership potential.
  • Develop prospect-specific engagement plans and cultivate relationships with appropriate corporate decision-makers and influencers.
  • Initiate meetings, briefings and introductions, and coordinating participation of relevant CARE colleagues where needed.
  • Maintain a disciplined partnership pipeline, including relationship history, opportunity stage, next actions and follow-up.
  • Identify appropriate corporate entry points such as sustainability, corporate affairs, foundations, employee engagement, innovation and senior leadership engagement.

Partnership Development and Resource Mobilization

  • Convert the established CP4E proposition into tailored partnership opportunities that mobilize financial and appropriate non-financial resources.
  • Prepare partner-specific concept notes, pitch decks, proposals, briefings and other external-facing partnership materials.
  • Translate CP4E’s humanitarian purpose and results into clear value propositions for corporate and philanthropic audiences.
  • Coordinate internal inputs from fundraising, technical, finance, communications and other relevant teams for proposals and partner presentations.
  • Coordinate with HQ functional teams and the regional and country teams to develop regional hubs which can bridge the sourcing gaps of the countries in the region.
  • Coordinate with corporate team and COs to establish potential humanitarian partnership with airlines and other third-party logistics providers.
  • Lead or support partner-facing presentations and negotiations within delegated authority, and track opportunity value, stage and next steps.

Partnership Due Diligence, Negotiation and Stewardship

  • Ensure humanitarian partnerships for CP4E are appropriately reviewed, structured, documented and managed from initial discussions through implementation and renewal.
  • Coordinate CARE’s applicable due diligence, ethical screening and internal review processes for prospective partners.
  • Work with relevant legal, finance, fundraising and compliance colleagues on partnership agreements, memoranda of understanding and related documentation.
  • Clarify partnership objectives, contributions, visibility, reporting requirements, mutual commitments and governance arrangements.
  • Serve as relationship manager for assigned partners, organize review meetings, track commitments and coordinate partner reporting.
  • Identify and address relationship issues early and develop opportunities for renewal, expansion or deeper engagement with existing partners.

Stakeholder Engagement, Communication and External Representation

  • Strengthen CP4E’s visibility and credibility among relevant external audiences and create additional partnership entry points.
  • Support development of corporate-facing materials, partnership case studies and impact stories with CARE’s marketing and communications team.
  • Coordinate appropriate partner recognition and visibility in line with CARE policies and agreed partnership terms.
  • Support corporate roundtables, business forums, presentations and other engagement events, and represent CP4E when delegated.
  • Facilitate stakeholder consultations and co-creation initiatives.
  • Build and maintain a qualified pipeline of commercialization prospects whose interests and capabilities align with defined CP4E partnership opportunities.
  • Coordinate and manage the work of external consultant and cross functional team and finalize CP4E commercialization and partnership strategy.
