Job Overview

The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to join the Faculty of Agriculture as Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, Assistant Lecturer, or Staff Associate in Animal Health and Welfare.

The successful candidate will contribute to excellence in teaching, research, consultancy, curriculum development, community engagement, and student mentorship within the University. The role also involves resource mobilization, academic leadership, and participation in departmental and university activities.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Animal Health and Welfare.
  • Prepare and regularly update course outlines, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
  • Conduct lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, and practical sessions.
  • Assess student learning through assignments, examinations, projects, and other evaluation methods.

Curriculum Development

  • Design, review, and improve curricula to meet academic standards and industry needs.
  • Integrate emerging research, technologies, and innovative teaching practices into academic programmes.

Research and Scholarship

  • Conduct high-quality research in Animal Health and Welfare.
  • Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research at academic conferences and professional forums.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, dissertations, and theses.
  • Develop and submit research proposals to attract grants and consultancy opportunities.

Student Mentorship

  • Provide academic advising and career guidance.
  • Mentor students to support their academic and professional development.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in outreach programmes and public engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver professional training, workshops, and short courses.

Quality Assurance

  • Participate in academic quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
  • Ensure compliance with university policies and accreditation standards.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees.
  • Support departmental planning and academic administration.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the University.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A Master's degree in Animal Science from a recognized university for appointment at the Assistant Lecturer level.
  • A PhD in Animal Science from a recognized university for appointment at the Lecturer level and above.
  • Registration as a practicing Veterinarian with the relevant professional body.

Other Requirements

  • Applicants for Staff Associate positions must possess a Bachelor's degree in a closely related field with at least a Credit from a reputable university.
  • Candidates completing a Master's degree should indicate their expected completion date.
  • A minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience, preferably in university teaching or curriculum development.
  • Applicants for Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor positions must demonstrate a strong publication record in recognized peer-reviewed journals and evidence of attracting research funding.

Terms and Conditions

Successful candidates will be appointed on an initial two-year contract, with the possibility of permanent appointment subject to satisfactory performance and compliance with the LUANAR Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service (2023).

Remuneration will be in accordance with the University's Staff Regulations and Conditions of Service.
