The Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to join the Faculty of Agriculture as Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer, Assistant Lecturer, or Staff Associate in Beef and Dairy Production.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, research, consultancy, curriculum development, community engagement, and student mentorship in the field of Beef and Dairy Production. The role also includes conducting impactful research, mobilizing resources through grants and consultancies, and supporting the University's academic and strategic objectives.
Responsibilities or duties
Teaching and Learning
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Beef and Dairy Production.
- Prepare and update course outlines, lesson plans, and teaching materials.
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, field practicals, and seminars.
- Assess student performance through assignments, examinations, projects, and practical assessments.
Curriculum Development
- Design, review, and enhance academic programmes to align with current industry trends and academic standards.
- Integrate modern livestock production practices, technologies, and research findings into the curriculum.
Research and Scholarship
- Conduct original research in Beef and Dairy Production.
- Publish research findings in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research at national and international conferences.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research.
- Develop grant proposals and secure funding for research and consultancy projects.
Student Mentorship
- Provide academic advising and career guidance to students.
- Mentor students in their academic, research, and professional development.
Community Engagement
- Participate in outreach programmes that support livestock farmers and industry stakeholders.
- Deliver professional training, workshops, and short courses in livestock production.
Quality Assurance
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives to improve teaching, learning, and research.
- Ensure compliance with university policies and accreditation requirements.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees.
- Assist in departmental planning, programme development, and other academic activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the University.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Applicants should possess:
- A Master's degree in Animal Science with a major in Beef and Dairy Production from a recognized university for appointment at the Assistant Lecturer level.
- A PhD in Animal Science from a recognized university for appointment at the Lecturer level and above.
Other Requirements
- Applicants for Staff Associate positions must possess a Bachelor's degree in a closely related field with at least a Credit from a reputable university.
- Candidates completing a Master's degree should indicate their expected completion date.
- A minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience, preferably in university teaching or curriculum development.
- Applicants for Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor positions must demonstrate publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals and evidence of successfully attracting research funding.
