Project Accountant
Vacancies:1 (One)
Location: Lilongwe
Reports To: Finance and Administration Manager/General Treasurer
Contract: 1 Year, renewable based on performance
Programme: Savings Group Ministry
Supported by: HOPE International Malawi
Church: CCAP Nkhoma Synod
ROLE PURPOSE
The Project Accountant will support the Finance and Administration Manager/General Treasurer in overseeing the financial operations of the Savings Group Program. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with donor guidelines, and efficient budget management. The Project Accountant will work closely with the Ministry Coordinator and other stakeholders to ensure transparency, accountability, and optimal use of project resources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Planning & Management
- Assist in planning, budgeting, and monitoring financial performance of the project.
- Coordinate financial activities in compliance with HOPE International Malawi’s church partner financial guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Finance and Administration Manager/General Treasurer on financial matters.
- Monitor cash and bank balances to ensure sufficient project funding.
Accounting and Reporting
- Maintain accurate financial records by capturing and posting transactions in the accounting system.
- Perform Reconciliation of bank statements.
- Ensure timely liquidation of cash advances and update quarterly action plans.
- Prepare and timely submit monthly financial reports, reconciliations and budget variance analysis as per donor requirements.
Compliance & Audit
- Ensure compliance with Church Partner Financial Guidelines
- Review financial data for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure proper filing of financial documentation.
- Support internal and external audits and implement audit recommendations.
- Conduct periodic partner and field visits to ensure compliance and provide financial support.
- Ensure compliance with local laws and regulations
Procurement and Inventory
- Support procurement processes including requisitions, quotations, and purchase orders.
- Manage inventory by receiving, inspecting, and recording goods.
Support and Coordination
- Provide on-site financial support and induction to staff.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to strategic financial discussions.
- Perform any other duties as delegated by the Finance and Administration Manager/General Treasurer.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in Accounting/Finance.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project accounting or financial management.
- Experience working with NGOs or donor-funded projects is an added advantage.
Required Software Skills
- QuickBooks – for accounting and financial reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, pdf, and power point
