Background
Malaria Alert Centre (MAC) is a university research centre at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) working on research to address priority global health challenges such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and other communicable diseases. With funding from the European Union, MAC will implement a study titled, “Advancing child-friendly artesunate-amodiaquine taste mask coated micro pellets to combat the threat of artemisinin resistant malaria in Africa (or ASAQ-PAC)” over the next three years. The project is a collaboration between MAC of KUHEs, Oxford University (UK), Hertfordshire University (UK), Fluid Pharma (UK) and Clinsearch (France).
To undertake the study, the Centre urgently needs the services of a Project Coordinator to be based in Blantyre.
Position summary
The Project Coordinator will lead implementation of the study including protocol development and approval, overseeing data collection, data management and analysis, and publications. In addition, the project coordinator will manage the study team.
Duration of contract
The contract will be for one year with possibility of further extension based on performance and availability of funding.
Reporting Line
The Project Coordinator will be reporting to the Principal Investigator
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The key responsibilities will include:
- Lead development of the study protocol, CRFs and submission for ethical review.
- Lead registration and approval of the ASAQ micro pellets (MPs) with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Malawi
- Together with the project investigators, the project coordinator will train study personnel on the protocol and SOPs
- Lead the design and preparation of the data and safety management board (DSMB) infrastructure
- Lead study site selection, preparation, management and maintenance
- Maintain day-to-day communication with the Principal Investigator and international collaborators to ensure that the study is implemented using approved SOPs.
- Lead in the analysis, write up and publication of research findings.
- Design and lead independent ancillary studies to increase the visibility of the Centre.
Required Education and Experience
The position requires an experienced researcher and therefore, candidates must have at least the following:
- A minimum of MBBS or equivalent qualification
- A master’s degree in epidemiology will be an added advantage
- Experience in managing clinical trials is a must
- Current registration with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- A valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate.
Remuneration
Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as applicable to staff in the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. KUHES is an equal opportunity employer.
