Position Summary
The Project Coordinator will serve as the strategic lead for a high-impact, multisectoral initiative bridging Climate Justice, Resilient Livelihoods, and Health. A primary pillar of your leadership will be overseeing evidence-based strategies to drive positive behavioral change, particularly regarding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and promoting peaceful co-existence across communities. You will provide the vision and management necessary to guide the full project lifecycle from planning and implementation to rigorous budget oversight and donor reporting ensuring all outcomes are delivered with excellence, on time, and in full compliance with international standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall coordination, implementation, and monitoring of integrated project activities across all thematic areas.
- Lead community dialogues and strategies focused on behavioral change and peaceful co-existence, ensuring conflict-sensitive programming is at the heart of social cohesion efforts.
- Oversee the integration of SRHR, climate justice, and economic empowerment activities to maximize cross-sectoral synergies.
- Develop detailed implementation plans, procurement schedules, and project budgets in close collaboration with finance and technical teams.
- Supervise and mentor project staff (Field Officers, M&E Officers, and Facilitators) to ensure high-quality, impactful delivery.
- Build and maintain influential relationships with District Councils, Traditional Authorities, and relevant Government Line Ministries (Health, Agriculture, Gender, etc.).
- Ensure that Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) principles are practically applied across all project interventions.
- Prepare and submit high-quality, data-driven quarterly and annual reports; ensure all expenditures comply with donor regulations and internal financial policies.
- Identify and manage project risks, ensuring robust Feedback and Complaints mechanisms (GRM) and safeguarding protocols are active and effective.
- Document best practices, success stories (specifically regarding behavioral shifts), and lessons learned to inform organizational growth and national advocacy.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Environmental Studies, Public Health, Gender Studies, Economics, Social Work. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive project management experience within a local or international NGO in Malawi.
- Proven track record in managing integrated projects involving at least three of the following: SRHR/Health, Livelihoods, Behavioral Change Communication (BCC), or Conflict Resolution.
- Demonstrated success in budget management (over $200k+), staff supervision, and donor reporting.
- Prior experience working with district governance structures in Dowa, Machinga, or Zomba is a significant asset.
Technical & Soft Skills
- Expertise in Project Cycle Management (PCM) and Results-Based Management.
- Strong understanding of Social and Behavioral Change Communication (SBCC) and conflict-sensitive programming.
- Excellent negotiation, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; familiarity with donor compliance (EU, USAID, UN, GIZ) is preferred.
- A valid motorcycle or driving license is an advantage.
Language
- Fluency in English and Chichewa (written and spoken).
