The Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM) is a registered organization in Malawi under the Trustee’s incorporation Act. In its quest to implement the new Strategy (2026 to 2030), BEAM is looking for well qualified Malawians to fill up the existing positions at its Secretariat in Lilongwe. The interested persons should be ready to start work immediately.

Responsibilities or duties

The Project Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination, implementation, and monitoring of BEAM’s activities on the ground.

Working under the guidance of the Programme Manager, this role will focus on driving the delivery of outputs outlined in the strategy, particularly under Pillar 1 (Sanitation & Hygiene) and supporting community-level activities for Pillar 2 (Health). The officer will work directly with communities, schools, market committees, and local government structures to ensure interventions are participatory, inclusive, and sustainable.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Community Development, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Good understanding of participatory approaches and community-led total sanitation (CLTS) methodologies
  • Strong facilitation, training, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chichewa.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Highly motivated and passionate about community development.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in diverse communities.
  • Willingness to spend significant time in the field.
  • Commitment to BEAM’s core values of integrity, impartiality, and accountability.

Experience needed

Minimum of 5 years of experience in implementing community-based development projects, preferably in WASH, health, or livelihoods. Experience in facilitating training and community mobilization.

Experience working with school health programs or menstrual hygiene management. Experience in urban community engagement.

Full-time, 3-year contract (renewable, subject to performance and funding)

Experience with climate-smart agriculture or nutrition programs.

  • Facilitate the implementation of “Clean Hands, Healthy Business/Schools” campaigns, including organizing hygiene education sessions and overseeing the work on the ground.
  • Coordinate the construction and rehabilitation of gender-segregated, disability-friendly WASH blocks in target schools, working closely with contractors and school management.
  • Support the establishment and training of School Health Clubs to lead Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) education and peer support.
  • Assist in the implementation of “Zero-Waste Market” pilots, facilitating training on waste segregation and supporting the formation of youth/women-led waste enterprises.
  • Support community mobilization activities related to the holistic health, hygiene ecosystem
  • Conduct participatory hygiene education sessions with community members, school children, teachers.
  • Facilitate “Leave No One Behind” mapping exercises to identify and register vulnerable groups for targeted support.
  • Train and support Community Health Workers (CHWs) and community-based committees in their roles.
  • Build the capacity of local partners and community structures in line with BEAM’s participatory approach.
  • Collect and verify programmatic data in line with the Strategy Monitoring Log Frame (e.g.. pre/post KAP survey data, infrastructure completion reports, attendance logs).
  • Prepare detailed and timely field activity reports, success stories, and case studies for input into quarterly donor reports.
  • Monitor project quality and flag any implementation challenges or risks to the Programme Manager.
  • Document lessons learned and best practices from the field to inform national advocacy.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with key stakeholders at the district and community levels, including Traditional Authorities (TAs), Area Development Committees (ADCs), Health Centre management, and school heads.
  • Represent BEAM in district-level coordination meetings as required.
