About the Education Commission for the Catholic Diocese of Zomba
The Education Commission for the Catholic Diocese of Zomba works in partnership with the Government of Malawi to provide quality education across the Diocese. The Commission promotes inclusive education and believes that education is a fundamental right for every individual. Through its work, the Commission contributes to literacy, positive behaviour, and socio-economic development.
Job Overview
The Projects Officer will support the planning, coordination, and implementation of education-related projects within schools under the Catholic Diocese of Zomba. The role involves school supervision, project development, donor engagement, and ensuring compliance with diocesan education policies.
Reporting To: Education Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct supportive supervision for Nursery, Primary, Secondary, and Technical Colleges under Zomba Diocese
- Ensure schools maintain Catholic identity, clear boundaries, valid registration certificates, and progress toward obtaining land title deeds in collaboration with Parish Priests
- Ensure Secondary Schools have functional School Management Committees (SMCs) and Parents–Teachers Associations (PTAs)
- Identify school needs and develop relevant project proposals to improve service delivery
- Support dissemination and implementation of the Diocesan Education Policy across all schools
- Ensure schools, including Open Secondary Schools, remit required contributions to the Commission on time
- Work with the Resource Mobilisation Team to identify donor opportunities and develop project proposals
- Implement funded projects and ensure proper accountability to donor satisfaction
- Support planning and administration of entrance examinations
- Report issues requiring attention to the Education Coordinator
- Perform any other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education
Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience
Skills and Competencies
- Strong project proposal writing skills
- Ability to work under pressure and solve problems effectively
- Good judgment on when to consult and escalate issues
- Honest, energetic, self-motivated, and reliable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Computer literacy
- Ability to ride a motorcycle
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a valid Motorcycle Driving License
