Background

The Malawi Enterprise Development Fund Limited (MEDF) is a government-owned microfinance institution whose mission is to economically empower ordinary and underserved Malawians, particularly women, youth, and persons with disabilities, through the provision of quality, affordable, and sustainable microfinance services.

Report to: Director of Credit (MF2)

Job Purpose

  • Leading in the development, review and implementation of loan recovery strategies and policies across all regions to optimize loan recoveries and minimize portfolio losses
  • Monitoring the overall performance of the loan portfolio in arrears, to ensure timely identification of problem loans and implementing appropriate strategies to improve loan recoveries.
  • Implementing and monitoring the activity recovery plan and recovery budget, ensuring all recoveries activities are executed efficiently and within budgetary limits.
  • Devising mechanisms to recover all loans in arrears within the recoveries portfolio and maintain Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) within acceptable limits of the total portfolio.
  • Implementing documentation and procedures of loan recoveries in full compliance with MEDF s arrears escalation policy and other relevant guidelines.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong internal control measures in line with the recoveries policy to prevent fraud and minimize losses across all regions.
  • Preparing and submitting comprehensive reports on the performance of recoveries operations to senior management and the Executive team within stipulated timelines. Monitoring and facilitating prompt and professional resolution of customer inquiries and complaints related to loan recoveries. Identifying potential risks associated with loan recoveries and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Analysing to identifying trends in loan defaults and recommend improvements in lending practices

Description

To lead recovery operations at MEDF to minimize loan defaults and optimize the recovery of outstanding debts.

Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, Microfinance, or Business Administration obtained from an NCHE accredited institution

Master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Banking, Microfinance, or Business Administration obtained from an NCHE accredited institution

Experience

Five (5) years of work experience, with at least three (3) years at management level
