About EERC
The Environmental and Economic Resource Centre (EERC) is a non-profit scientific research organization that works with a network of local and international partners to catalyze and develop inclusive agriculture, sustainable livelihoods, natural resource conservation, and environmental management in Africa. EERC undertakes research and capacity-building to develop policies, scalable technologies, and innovative practices with real impact on poverty reduction, food security, ecosystem health, conservation, and livelihood development. EERC operates four main programs: agriculture and environmental management, natural resource conservation, livelihood and economic development, and human resource and capacity building. The programs cover a range of research topics related to agriculture and the environment. More specifically, EERC research focuses on climate-smart agriculture, climate change, food systems, health and nutrition, conflict and migration, natural resource management (land, water, forests), renewable energy, carbon markets, land-use change, rural livelihoods, and gender and social inclusion.
About the Fellowship
The 2026 Internship Call aims to strengthen evidence-based research in Malawi’s agricultural sector to identify strategic areas, research priorities, and investment opportunities, with particular emphasis on agriculture and the environment. EERC invites qualified candidates to undertake a three-month, results-oriented research internship aligned with any of the thematic areas:Advertise in Malawi
- Climate-smart agriculture
- Natural resource management
- Youth and green jobs
- Sustainable food systems
- Climate finance and adaptation
Applicants are expected to clearly demonstrate knowledge of Malawi's agricultural and environmental sectors, with a good understanding of the National Agricultural Policy, the 2063 Malawi Vision, and the National Agricultural Investment Plan, to support their research focus. Prospective candidates will be required to work under the supervision of an experienced researcher to conduct research using any of the highlighted national strategic documents to support EERC programs in Malawi. Please note that this is a non-paid internship. However, successful interns will receive:
- Opportunities to engage with researchers across EERC offices and partner networks
- Structured learning and capacity-building support
- Support toward research outputs and publications
- Potential consideration for future opportunities, subject to available funding and ongoing projects in Malawi.
The internship is fully remote. However, interns may occasionally be requested to support field-related activities in Zomba, Blantyre, and Lilongwe Districts.
Internship Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this internship, applicants must:
- Hold at least a BSc degree or MSc degree in Agricultural Science, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or Climate Change, or any other relevant degrees with no more than five years’ post-graduation experience.
- Demonstrate strong interest in research, policy, or field-based project implementation
- Be available for the full duration of the three-month internship
- Possess good communication, analytical, and writing skills
- Be willing to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team
Duration: Three months (full-time)
Location: Full Remote
