Background
The International Potato Center (CIP) is a global research-for-development organization with a mandate to increase food security, improve nutrition, and reduce poverty through research and development in potato, sweetpotato, and other root and tuber crops. CIP is a CGIAR research center.
Responsibilities
The Senior Research Associate will be responsible for:
- Leading and conducting research on potato and sweetpotato breeding and agronomy in Malawi.
- Developing and implementing research methodologies and protocols.
- Analyzing research data and disseminating findings through reports, publications, and presentations.
- Collaborating with national agricultural research systems, extension services, and other stakeholders.
- Supervising and mentoring junior researchers and technical staff.
- Contributing to the development of research proposals and securing funding.
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A PhD in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant research experience in crop improvement and agronomy, preferably with potato or sweetpotato.
- Proven experience in research design, data analysis, and scientific writing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working in developing countries is an advantage.
