Project HOPE Namibia (PHN) is an indigenous regional African NGO founded in 2004 with technical expertise in infectious diseases, maternal and child health, and economic strengthening with a programmatic presence across the continent. PHN has over 20 years’ experience implementing public health programming in Africa with demonstrated capacity to implement PEPFAR-funded projects in Namibia and Malawi. In Namibia, PHN was USAID’s lead partner for OVC programming since 2013 and 2018, respectively. PHN works in collaboration with local stakeholders, host government ministries, and other partners in countries of implementation to ensure implementation in accordance with the local context and with buy-in from the appropriate stakeholders.
Project HOPE Namibia – MA (PHN-MA), registered in Malawi in 2024, is currently implementing the Ana ndi Achinyamata Patsogolo (ANAPA) project in Malawi-a five-year, $60 million initiative funded by PEPFAR/USAID previously and now under the USG’s Department of State (DoS). Initially designed to prevent new HIV infections by increasing uptake of health, HIV, and social services among children, adolescents, and their families, with a particular focus- the project shifted focus following the stop work order. ANAPA now prioritizes the provision of life saving HIV care and treatment services for vulnerable children.
ANAPA has also received non-PEPFAR funding from DoS to implement nutrition interventions in seven ANAPA supported districts of Blantyre, Lilongwe, Machinga, Mangochi, Phalombe, Thyolo and Zomba from March-September 2026. The Nutrition program is aimed supporting the Government of Malawi in addressing the childhood nutrition challenges of stuntedness, wasting and micronutrients deficiencies and it will focus on social and behaviour change interventions while strengthening local capacity for sustainable nutrition programming.
It is against this background that PHN-MA seeks qualified Malawians to fill the position for the ANAPA Activity as follows:
Responsibilities or duties
SBCC Strategy Development and Implementation
- Plan and conduct formative assessments to inform the SBC strategy, including, but not limited to, barrier analysis, target audience segmentation, identification of existing messaging materials, and identification of priority and influencing groups.
- Support the development and operationalisation of SBCC strategies aligned with national nutrition policies and programme objectives.
- Design and implement culturally appropriate, evidence based SBCC interventions targeting key behaviours.
- Ensure the integration of SBCC approaches across nutrition and WASH programme activities.
- Compile existing SBC materials into a compendium for use in the project.
Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement
- Coordinate SBCC activities with District Nutrition Coordination Committees (DNCCs), District Health Management Teams (DHMTs), and other relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in multisectoral platforms to promote harmonised messaging and joint planning.
- Strengthen partnerships with community structures, frontline workers, and local leaders.
Capacity Building
- Facilitate training and mentorship for district staff, health workers, and community volunteers on SBCC approaches and tools.
- Support the development and dissemination of SBCC materials and job aids.
- Build the capacity of community cadres for effective community engagement and interpersonal communication.
Community Engagement and Social Mobilization
- Support the design and rollout of community engagement strategies to drive behaviour change.
- Promote community dialogue, participation, and ownership of nutrition interventions.
- Ensure the inclusion of gender, youth, and vulnerable populations in SBCC activities.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
- Coordinate with the M&E team to establish effective monitoring and evaluation indicators to assess the effectiveness of SBCC strategies.
- Document lessons learned, success stories, and best practices.
- Support data-driven decision-making to improve SBCC effectiveness.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare high-quality reports on SBCC activities, progress, and outcomes.
- Contribute to donor reports, technical briefs, and programme updates.
- Maintain proper documentation of SBCC tools, materials, and processes.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Communication, Social Sciences, Nutrition, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in SBCC, health promotion, or community engagement programmes.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing behaviour change interventions.
- Experience working with multisectoral coordination structures is an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of SBCC frameworks and methodologies.
- Knowledge of the national multisectoral nutrition education and communication strategy.
- Excellent facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage diverse stakeholders at community and district levels.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Experience needed
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in SBCC, health promotion, or community engagement programmes.
