Background
Lilongwe Handling Company Limited (LIHACO) is a wholly Malawi Government owned commercial entity established in 2000. The core business of the company is to provide to provide passenger, ramp and cargo handling services to national and international airlines, travel & tour and lounge services to passengers traveling in and out of Malawi Airports. The Company is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant position at the Bakili Muluzi International Airport.
Responsibilities
- Ensure implementation and monitoring of day-to-day administration and operation of the safety management system at station level
- Ensure station is functioning properly in accordance with LIHACO standards and requirements of customer airlines and relevant authorities
- Ensure departments of the station are provided with necessary facilities, work space, equipment and supporting services as well as work environment to satisfy operational safety and security requirements at the station
- Ensure weighing scales are periodically checked and calibrated to assure accuracy of weights recorded and keep records
- Analysing operational reports and providing strategic guidance for the station
- Developing and reviewing work plans, programs and budgets
- Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of work plans, budget, service level agreements, Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and programs to foster operational effectiveness and efficiency of the station
- Set targets and standards for measuring and evaluating operational effectiveness and efficiency of station sections and their heads
- Ensure Station department heads read, understand and are familiar with the ORM in general and all the sections of the Ground Handling Manual in particular
- Request customer airlines to supply operational manuals
- Authorize and control expenditure to implement practical and operational decisions at station level
- Coordinate and resolve safety and security issues from station sections and cooperate with the corporate office through participation in Safety Review Board meetings.
- Ensure safety and security of LIHACO equipment at station level
- Ensure that operational guidelines procedures and instructions are implemented by sections of the station in line with industry standards and requirements of customer airlines
- Establishing a good rapport with customer airlines and other stakeholders on operational issues through meetings
- Conduct station management system review meetings
- Championing change management, corporate governance, risk management and internal control processing in managing station.
- Convene station planning meeting
- Report incidents and accidents
- Resolve disagreements between auditor and audited operational area
- Convene meeting to discuss findings raised in audit reports
- Hold meetings to review issues arising from the quality assurance programme.
- Provide required notifications as soon as possible after a security threat has been received
- Appraise staff
Qualifications
- Minimum Degree in Hospitality Management plus Master’s Degree in Business Administration or any Management related field.

- Five (5) years’ experience at Management level
