Background
The Merchant Officer will be responsible for recruiting and managing the TNM Mpamba merchant network in line with approved merchant business plans within assigned markets.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify and recruit prospective partners as merchants.
- Share value propositions to acquire and manage merchants.
- Conduct due diligence and ensure all merchant contractual agreements are valid and up to date.
- Ensure all merchants are enrolled on the auto-sweep functionality.
- Hold periodic merchant alignment meetings in assigned areas.
- Implement merchant recruitment and trade activations within approved budgets.
- Conduct continuous training for Mpamba merchants.
- Place and maintain relevant point-of-sale (POS) materials to ensure proper branding.
- Assess and replace outdated POS materials in merchant outlets.
- Monitor wallet activities of new and existing merchants to identify performance gaps.
- Ensure merchant activity ratios align with business targets.
- Identify market areas requiring redress or improvement.
- Ensure timely resolution of merchant queries.
- Communicate changes in merchant services to merchants.
- Develop weekly movement plans to ensure regular merchant visits and market intelligence gathering.
- Support trade activation initiatives to drive merchant activity.
Professional Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- Diploma in Business Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
- (A degree in these fields will be an added advantage.)
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in sales and distribution, preferably in the telecommunications or FMCG industry.
- Strong communication skills.
- Self-motivated and results oriented.
- High attention to detail.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications.
