Lighthouse SACCO, an affiliate of Malawi Union of Savings & Credit Cooperatives Ltd (MUSCCO), is a member owned and democratically controlled financial society that aims at promoting regular saving habit and also providing affordable and competitive financial services in order to improve members’ social economic status. An opportunity has risen to all Malawian nationals who have passion to work with Financial Cooperatives in the areas of Accounting.Maps
The SACCO is offering a three (3) months temporary assistant Loans Officer to assist in the Loan office department
Qualifications
Education
- Minimum of Diploma in Banking, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications in microfinance, credit management, or cooperative management are an added advantage.
Experience
- At least 1–2 years of experience in lending, credit administration, customer service, banking, or SACCO operations.
- Experience in loan appraisal, loan recovery, and member/customer relationship management is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of credit management principles and lending procedures.
- Ability to analyze financial information and assess loan applications.
- Knowledge of SACCO operations, cooperative principles, and financial regulations.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong record-keeping and report-writing skills.
- Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office and financial management systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity.
Personal Attributes
- Honest, trustworthy, and self-motivated.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Willingness to conduct field visits and loan monitoring activities.
Responsibilities
Typical Duties
- Assist in interpreting loan aging analysis reports and identifying delinquent and high-risk loans.
- Support in preparation of monthly delinquency allowance provisions.
- Following up with borrowers under the “Self Category” loan portfolio to ensure timely repayments.
- Help in generating and adjusting employer advice schedules.
- Support in processing of payroll contributions from employers and uploading them into FinFinancials.
- Assist in producing comprehensive monthly loan reports.
- Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
