ActionAid Malawi with funding from Roger Federer Foundation (RFF) is implementing a “School Readiness Initiative Malawi (SRM) project in Lilongwe rural, Balaka, Mulanje and Phalombe districts, from July 2024 until June 2026.Malawi business advertising
School Readiness initiative is aimed at supporting “children to be ready for schools and schools ready for children”. The project is implemented in Primary schools and their feeder community-based care centers (CBCCs).
The strategy is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4.2 whose focus is on ensuring that by 2030 all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.
ActionAid invites applications from suitably qualified personnel to fill the following vacant positions.
Position: Temporary Project Officer
Reporting to: Project Manager
Role Overview:
To facilitate project implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting that will ensure smooth delivery of project, accountability and compliance with contractual obligations agreed with the funder and ActionAid management
Responsibilities
Project Planning
i. Inputs into the development of annual and medium/long term plans and budgets for the project
ii. Develops implementation plans for the project
iii. Conducts needs assessment for the project
iv. Consults and markets project to various stakeholdersEducation
Project Implementation
i. Sets up local level project teams that facilitate implementation of the project
ii. Implementation of project activities according to the Annual Plans and Budgets and in line with Project Contract
iii. Identifies capacity gaps of partners
iv. Nurtures and builds capacity (training) of partners
v. Ensures mainstreaming of women’s rights issues and rights-based approaches in project implementation
vi. Conducts initial reviews and recommends for approval of proposals from partners
vii. Supports partners to mobilize resources for project activities
viii. Participates in project implementation and team meetings
Project Monitoring, Evaluation, Impact Assessment and Reporting
i. Participates project appraisals, review and evaluation
ii. Collects data for project database
iii. Carries out continuous participatory review, reflections and shared learning
iv. Develops monthly narrative and financial project reports
v. Documents issues in relation to project interests
Policy Influencing, networking and alliances
i. Represents AAIM and participates in relevant policy forums locally.
ii. Facilitates strategic alliance/network/coalition building and strengthening on advocacy issues at local level
iii. Consolidates grassroots issues and connects them to regional and national policy agenda
iv. Monitors compliance of partners to the project activities espoused in the MOU drawn with AAIM
General management and Corporate Responsibilities
i. Participates in and contributes to Project Forums, Project Team meetings, task forces
ii. Maintains regular flow of information with other projects and strategic partners
iii. Provides timely feedback and responses to project related tasks/requests from the Project Coordinator and other stakeholders within and without AAIM.
iv. Carries out other functions as assigned by the Project Coordinator
Qualifications
• A minimum of bachelor’s in early childhood development, social sciences, development studies, education, or any relevant field from recognized university
• Familiar computer packages e.g., Microsoft word, excel, PowerPoint
• A minimum of 3 years working with children in community-based care centers and lower Primary school
• Experience in project planning, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation
• Team player and good communication skills

iii. Analysis and report writing
iv. Planning, organization, time management, coordination, and budget tracking.
