Background
Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) requires the services of enthusiastic, motivated and qualified individuals to work as research assistants for a Vitamin A Supplementation program Bottleneck Study. The activity is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Nutrition Unit with funding from UNICEF. The study will use qualitative and quantitative research methods. The field data collection activity will be conducted for 1 week for research assistants and 10 days for data review in 6 selected districts in Malawi after undergoing the training.
Duties and Responsibilities
Among others, research assistant shall perform the following duties;
- Obtaining informed consent from potential study participants
- Identifying selected households for surveys and interviews.
- Obtaining informed consent from household members for participation in the study
- Conducting household and individual interviews using tablets for electronic data capture
- Maintaining coherent records of daily activities and provide updates to team members
- Assisting with team organization and planning
- Any other duties as assigned including report writing
Qualifications and Experience
- At least a Diploma in Community Development, Public Health and related field
- Good clinical practice certificate that is up to date
- Good computer skills with experience in collecting data using tablets.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Those with excellent and strong experience in collecting and processing both qualitative and quantitative data in health-related research will have an added advantage.
- Previous experience working with Ministry of Health personnel and data collection using electronic devices and GIS.

- Willing to travel extensively in hard-to-reach areas to collect data
- Experience and knowledge of professional conduct and interacting with communities and government officials.
- Willing to work at odd hours and during weekends.
