Background
Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) requires the services of enthusiastic, motivated and qualified individuals to work as research assistants for a Vitamin A Supplementation program Bottleneck Study. The activity is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Nutrition Unit with funding from UNICEF. The study will use qualitative and quantitative research methods. The field data collection activity will be conducted for 1 week for research assistants and 10 days for data review in 6 selected districts in Malawi after undergoing the training.
Duties and Responsibilities
Among others, research Assistants shall perform the following duties;
- Obtaining informed consent from potential study participants
- Planning, arranging and conducting FGDs, IDIs with different groups in communities.
- Planning, arranging and conducting key informant in-depth interviews in selected districts as well as selected Ministry of Health officials at different levels of health system.
- Taking notes during FGDs and IDIs as well as transcribing verbatim collected qualitative data.
- Translating into English all transcripts which are in the local language.
- Maintaining coherent records of daily activities, updates and reports to supervisors and PI.
- Assisting with team organization and planning
- Any other duties as assigned including report writing
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Community Development, Public Health and related field.
- Excellent computer skills with experience in collecting data using recorders and tablets.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent experience in collecting, transcribing and translating qualitative data in health-related research.
- Those with experience in both qualitative and quantitative research will have an added advantage.
