Background
Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS) requires the services of enthusiastic, motivated and qualified individuals to work as research assistants for a Vitamin A Supplementation program Bottleneck Study. The activity is being conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Nutrition Unit with funding from UNICEF. The study will use qualitative and quantitative research methods. The field data collection activity will be conducted for 1 week for research assistants and 10 days for data review in 6 selected districts in Malawi after undergoing the training.
Duties and Responsibilities
Among others, review officers perform the following duties;
- Identify appropriate health facility registers and reporting forms in health facilities and districts.
- Review, identify and collect data using the electronic data capture devices from electronic or manual Ministry of Health data tools or repository.
- Planning, arranging and conducting health services delivery observations.
- Planning, arranging and conducting key informant in-depth interviews with health care workers.
- Taking notes during interviews as well as transcribing verbatim collected qualitative data.
- Any other duties as assigned including report writing
Qualifications and Experience
- At least a University Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Medicine from recognized institution. Those with data related qualifications and strong experience working with Ministry of Health data in DHIS2 will be considered.
- Experience using Ministry of Health DHIS2 including accessing and analyzing the data.
- Excellent computer skills with experience in collecting data using recorders and tablets.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent experience in collecting, transcribing and translating qualitative data in health-related research.
- Those with experience in both qualitative and quantitative research will have an added advantage.
Essential requirements
- Willing to travel extensively and even in hard-to-reach areas including being on motorbikes to get to facilities where necessary.
- Knowledge of professional conduct and interacting with health care workers, communities and government officials.
- Willing to work at odd hours.
- Certification in good clinical practice (GCP) that is up to date.
